Facing the challenge of making significant change within their network to improve service levels, PetsMart knew they were barking up the right tree when they partnered with DSC Logistics.

Taking on PetsMart’s California crossdock operation, DSC exceeded expectations by efficiently managing the crossdock to achieve a 99.7 percent on-time delivery to stores and 98 percent order-fill rate over a six-year period.

DSC served as a mixing center for multiple vendor deliveries with cross-docking and storage activities for 20,000+ SKUs. We then consolidated all product for delivery to each retail store each week. The vendors delivered products to DSC on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. All products came to DSC with a specific retail store tag to identify their destination; we received and placed the pallets into the dedicated store area. Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday, we loaded straight truckloads to each retail store. DSC provided direct store delivery to 85 stores in 11 western states.

In order to increase service levels to retail outlets, DSC collaborated with PetsMart to change delivery routes. When inbound transfers from Phoenix would not make their delivery appointment at DSC, jeopardizing order-fill and on-time delivery to stores, DSC offered extended receiving hours to ensure high order-fill to the stores.

Our flexibility and our near flawless execution made it possible for PetsMart to exceed their service level goals. And, our collaborative approach made it a true partnership. You might say we were “Best in Show!”
