It was a huge change—Turtle Wax went from manufacturing all of its car care products in one Chicago location to outsourcing the manufacturing to multiple sites, with different products in different locations. And that meant coordinating the movement of raw materials from a hundred different providers to these manufacturing sites and the distribution of finished goods from the manufacturers to customers.

It was a huge challenge. But, the company savvy enough to know it was time to change, was also wise enough to trust logistics partner, DSC Logistics, to manage the change.

DSC developed a network-wide transportation solution for the more flexible production model, moving raw materials from vendors to multiple manufacturers and finished goods from manufacturers to DSC’s Logistics Center in Elwood, IL, and then on to retail outlets and distribution centers. And, DSC collaborates with Turtle Wax to manage that entire supply chain.

Before, DSC had efficiently moved Turtle Wax’s outbound finished goods from the Elwood Logistics Center. Now, going farther back in Turtle Wax’s more complicated supply chain, DSC manages all raw material purchase order activity for Turtle Wax—from coordinating pickups to scheduling deliveries to reporting back to Turtle Wax on compliance issues. Turtle Wax shipments are primarily LTL and their carrier relationship is with DSC; they rely on DSC’s established relationships with multiple carriers for a dependably high level of service.
