No time to waste—that’s what Georgia-Pacific (GP) had when they needed to change 3PLs in a very short time frame with no service disruption. It was a good thing their new provider was DSC Logistics.

During the planning phase, DSC designed a plan that allowed for all activities to occur over a weekend…yes, that’s one weekend. This included inventory conversion, equipment delivery, office set up, building prep, operational activity to meet the first day’s order and all necessary IT hardware and phones installation. All personnel were trained and oriented. The inventory, already in place, was converted to DSC’s system. Every pallet in the facility was located and relabeled with pallet tags, and, of course, checked for accuracy. The DSC start up team worked that weekend for 36 hours straight to make sure all of GP’s needs were met.

The deployment of DSC’s SCOUT (Supply Chain On-site Unification Team) resources also helped to make it all possible. The SCOUTs, DSC employees at all levels from hourly to manager, are always on call and prepared for a situation like this. These pre-identified employees, the “best of the best” across the country at the functions they perform, are extremely talented in their positions and great at teaching others. In the GP situation, Warehouse SCOUTs supported the new team in the operations by training, coaching and executing the operations where necessary. SCOUTs also supported the supervision and administrative requirements for the first few weeks of operations.

Yes, DSC did everything necessary to make the conversion in one weekend. And, by Monday, we were ready to ship. There were clean cut offs, all orders were picked…and it was business as usual on Monday morning.
