It was as straightforward as that for a “Fortune 50” company when they determined their network was too large and needed to be adjusted. The company wanted to close a private bonded facility dedicated to them, operated by DSC, and locate that same operation within DSC’s dedicated and bonded global Logistics Center only 20 minutes away.

You see, everything the company manufactures comes to two DSC Logistics Centers first, and then DSC ships out all over the world. Next in line in the network are the public warehouses around the country where product is broken down and shipped to wholesalers and then on to retailers. So, we knew it made sense to close the DSC-operated public warehouse facility and locate the operation within our nearby global Logistics Center. We knew that eliminating the public warehouse and instituting direct ship from the DSC Logistics Center would allow customers to receive product sooner, essentially getting it to market faster.

DSC, in collaboration with the customer, provided the plan and the execution, taking the lead on the entire project. We designed and put into place processes for the facility closing and the transition to the global Logistics Center, meeting weekly with the customer’s team to maintain timelines and responsibilities. We worked with multiple outside vendors to close the operation and move equipment, coordinated with carriers to determine schedule changes and adjustments and worked closely with inventory management to determine volume flow.

We folded all of the business, including employees, from the facility into the Logistics Center. Switching from stock transfer to direct ship to the wholesaler required new processes and affected the entire operation. It took long hours and enormous effort from all departments, but we did it all without disruption to the supply chain and within the prescribed budget.

We showed that we can lead our customer into a new concept and we can manage a different piece of the business that had never been tried. Make us part of your checklist…we’re ready for anything!

At DSC, our mission is to help customers reach their business goals. To do that, we are happy to adapt our systems and processes to meet changing needs. When a valued customer develops new products, opens new markets or explores new directions, we are excited by the opportunities those changes present. Through communication and collaboration, we can design and implement strategies and solutions that can help take them anywhere they want to go!

DSC Logistics achieves customer business goals through the management of change and information in the supply chain.
